Counselling &                      Coaching

What is Counselling?

Counselling is a form of talking therapy which will help you to explore thoughts, feelings and behaviours in a safe and confidential space. Counselling can support the development of awareness, coping mechanisms and strategies to allowing you to move forward with your life. Other forms of therapy such as Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) or Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) are typically shorter in duration, focusing more on the here and now, but are structured to include goals and practical exercises to complete outside of the sessions.

Below I have included the most commonly practiced approaches, however over 50 different modalities have been reported to exist.

Different types of Counselling/Therapies

  • Acceptance and Commitment Therapy

  • Cognitive Behavioural Therapy

  • Interpersonal Therapy

  • Integrative Therapy

  • Mindfulness based Cognitive Therapy

  • Person-centred Therapy

  • Pluralistic Therapy

  • Psychodynamic Psychotherapy

  • Transactional Analysis

What is Coaching?

Coaching typically focuses more on the client in the here and now but aims to encourage personal development and self-improvement. Typically the sessions will be more pragmatic and structured towards agreed goals between client and the coach. Although a coach will work with you, it’s often up to you to challenge or reflect upon certain ideas you have to help you move forward with your life.

Different types of Coaching Approaches

  • Behavioural and Cognitive Coaching

  • Humanistic Coaching (e.g. Person-centered, Motivational Interviewing, Pluralistic)
